Our Story

Downey Federal Credit Union started in July 1957 as Downey School Employees Federal Credit Union, founded by eight Downey Union High School District employees. Over the decades, we've expanded our reach and impact:

  • 1974 – Merged with Downey Community Hospital Federal Credit Union, expanding membership.
  • 2000 – Transitioned to a community charter, making membership more accessible.
  • Today – Now open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or goes to school in Bell, Bell Gardens, Bellflower, Compton, East Compton, Cudahy, Downey, Huntington Park, Lynwood, Norwalk, Paramount, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, and South Gate—plus their family members. With over 18,000 members and $362 million in assets, DowneyFCU remains committed to financial empowerment and community growth.
Committed to our Community

As a community-based financial institution, DowneyFCU is dedicated to providing a full spectrum of low-cost, secure financial products and services, always with personalized, friendly support. While we offer many of the same financial solutions as big banks, our member-first philosophy sets us apart. Our commitment goes beyond banking—from our $7 membership fee, $5 is donated directly to local organizations that make a meaningful impact. Through this initiative, we continuously support programs that uplift and strengthen our neighborhoods.
