Connected Through Community
Downey Federal Credit Union (DFCU) strives to serve the financial needs of local organizations and the community while also being an active member of our communities. In 2018, we donated to our communities in the form of special school programs, student scholarships, and Student Enrichment Grants to DUSD teachers; support for non-profit organizations such as Stay Gallery, TLC, The Arc, G.O.O.D, and SEAACA; and also, the backing of local entities, like the YMCA, Downey Police and Fire Departments, the Downey Chamber of Commerce and more.
DFCU’s fight to eradicate hunger in our city began in 2014 when we hosted our first annual Food Packing Event and donated 27,000 meals to PTA H.E.L.P.S. and FoodHelp, a food bank at Downey First Christian Church. This year we hosted our 6th Annual Food Packing Event where we will be packaged over 60,000 meals for families in need in Downey and surrounding cities.
We are proud to say that our partnership with Downey Unified School District has continued to grow and strengthen over the years. Not only have we been able to fund some of their school initiatives, provide holidays gifts to students through our “adopt a family” event, and host financial education workshops for students, but we also offer a Warren High School and Downey High School debit card program in which we donate to the respective school every time the card is used! We are excited to extend our support and financial education workshops to school districts within our field of membership.
Lastly, $5 of our $7 one-time membership fee continues to be donated to the member’s choice of one of three local charities. Thank you to our members for contributing to the work we do in our communities!
